Get ready for some serious fun! Take a week (or more!) to do what you love the most! Our specialty camps give campers the chance to focus on a topic or skill with the benefits of being in a fun camp environment. Choose from sports specialties, arts exploration, horseback riding to eating adventures and more. Or, cap the summer off performing in our fabulous spotlight play. You can even mix some specialty camps with classic camp for an exciting summer experience.
Campers will have their specialty camp focus every morning and then jump into their Butwin favorites in the afternoons. Please see specialty camp descriptions below for details and participation minimums.

  • Week 1: June 19 - 23

    • 1.) Butwin Buckaroos
      Experience the joys of horseback riding at the Butwin Corral! Buckaroo campers are led by experienced equestrian staff in a progressively structured program providing a fun experience of interacting with gentle horses including hands-on learning, grooming and riding. This camp fills up fast! Maximum of 12 campers.

    • 2.) Bullseye Archery
      Learn to handle a bow and arrow like a champion and hit that bullseye at our archery camp. Lead by esteemed certified instructors, this camp promises to build self-confidence, instill good sportsmanship and teach the fundamentals of archery. Maximum of 24 campers.

    • 3.) Furs, Feathers and Scales
      Join us as we answer the call of the wild in this awesome animal-themed adventure! With plenty of visits to and from furry, scaly, and feathery friends, this camp is perfect for every animal lover. With visits with the Minnesota DNR, the Animal Humane Society, and more, it’s sure wild time! Maximum of 24 campers.
  • Week 2: June 26 - June 30

    • 1.) Butwin Buckaroos
      Experience the joys of horseback riding at the Butwin Corral! Buckaroo campers are led by experienced equestrian staff in a progressively structured program providing a fun experience of interacting with gentle horses including hands-on learning, grooming and riding. Maximum of 12 campers.

    • 2.) Sports Mix
      Skyhawks will lead us through a week of Ultimate Frisbee, golf, track & field, and more! Athletes will learn the rules and essentials of each sport through skill-based games and scrimmages. By the end of the week, your child will walk away with knowledge of (2 or 3) new sports along with vital life lessons such as respect, teamwork, and self- discipline. Minimum of 8 campers, maximum of 24 campers.

    • 3.) Dancing Through Neverland
      Explore the story of Peter Pan through Dance Theater! Different from Musical Theater, Dance Theater tells a story without words, exclusively through movement and physical characterization. Campers will learn steps and choreography from a professional dance instructor, develop their character throughout the story, and help bring Neverland to life by creating their own props! Minimum of 5 campers, maximum of 15 campers.

    • 4.) Butwin Explorers (Gr 6-8 Only)
      This weeklong camp includes a 3-day/2-night trip exploring Minnesota’s wilderness and canoeing down the St. Croix River. The highly trained staff at Wilderness Inquiry will guide us as we camp along the way! You bring the sleeping bag and other personal needs, we’ll provide all the equipment and food. Minimum of 6 campers, maximum of 12 campers.
  • Week 3: July 3 - July 7

    • 1.) Butwin Buckaroos
      Experience the joys of horseback riding at the Butwin Corral! Buckaroo campers are led by experienced equestrian staff in a progressively structured program providing a fun experience of interacting with gentle horses including hands-on learning, grooming and riding. Maximum of 12 campers.

    • 2.) Challenger Soccer
      Back by popular demand! This camp provides innovative approaches to coaching youth soccer with highly-experienced soccer pros. Participants receive a ball and t-shirt at the end of the week. Minimum of 9 campers, maximum of 24 campers.

    • 3.) Play with Northern Clay
      This week we will work with the artists from the esteemed Northern Clay Center. We will learn different techniques as we create functional and sculptural objects out of clay. We will spend time decorating our pieces, and even get to try working with more than one type of clay! Then, Northern Clay Center will fire our projects for us so we can treasure them forever! Minimum of 8 campers, maximum of 20 campers.

  • Week 4: July 10 - 14

    • 1.) Butwin Buckaroos
      Experience the joys of horseback riding at the Butwin Corral! Buckaroo campers are led by experienced equestrian staff in a progressively structured program providing a fun experience of interacting with gentle horses including hands-on learning, grooming and riding. Maximum of 12 campers.

    • 2.) Flag Football
      Flag Football is the perfect introduction to “America’s Game.” Campers learn skills on both sides of the football including the core components of passing, catching, and defense – all presented in a fun and positive environment. The week ends with the Skyhawks Super Bowl, giving participants a chance to showcase their skills on the gridiron! Participants receive a t-shirt, football, and player evaluation. Minimum of 8 campers, maximum of 24 campers.

    • 3.) Camp K9
      Get ready for an awesome week working, learning and playing with dogs! Our partners at Canine Inspired Change will bring their therapy dogs out to the Butwin grounds where we will do agility and dog training, teach the dogs to do puzzles, and learn dog-inspired meditation. Canine Inspired Change believes in the power of love over hate, and through their dogs we can access the power of love. Not only can dogs inspire love between a child and the animal, but they foster positive relationships between humans. After our agility sessions with the dogs, we will play games like dog bingo (with dogs!) and reflect on what we have learned and experienced each morning. This camp is limited to 12 participants.
  • Week 5: July 17 - 21

    • 1.) Butwin Buckaroos
      Experience the joys of horseback riding at the Butwin Corral! Buckaroo campers are led by experienced equestrian staff in a progressively structured program providing a fun experience of interacting with gentle horses including hands-on learning, grooming and riding. Maximum of 12 campers.

    • 2.) Kickin' Karate
      Get ready for a week of martial arts! Karate not only teaches self-defense, but it also teaches them tools that will help them be successful throughout their life. Our partners at Focus Karate will teach us beginning karate skills and use those skills to build self-control, a clearer focus, self-confidence, AND get some of that ENERGY out! Minimum of 8 campers, maximum of 24 campers.

    • 3.) Green Thumb Gardeners
      Learn to be an expert gardener! We will plant, learn all about composting, harvesting and simple food preparation from veggies we pick from our very own Butwin garden! Maximum of 20 campers.

    • 4.) Spotlight (weeks 5-8)
      The paparazzi will be chasing you down after you appear on the Butwin stage! Join us for an unforgettable experience staging a one-act version of The Swiss Family Robinson adapted by Phyllis McCallum. We’ll travel with the shipwrecked Robinson family to a deserted island, inhabited only by a number of very interesting and funny animals. The family will work together to build their home, only to be threatened by pirates (yikes!) and finally rescued by a friendly ship! This four-week camp runs from July 17-August 11 (no other camps are available when you make this choice), with a performance the evening of August 10. Minimum of 6 campers, maximum of 20 campers.
  • Week 6: July 24 - 28

    • 1.) Butwin Buckaroos
      Experience the joys of horseback riding at the Butwin Corral! Buckaroo campers are led by experienced equestrian staff in a progressively structured program providing a fun experience of interacting with gentle horses including hands-on learning, grooming and riding. Maximum of 12 campers.

    • 2.) Bullseye Archery

    • 3.) Creative Mosaic
      Join us for a week learning all about design and pattern! Using colorful pieces of glass, we will create amazing individual pieces to take home, as well as one group piece to donate to Camp! Minimum of 6 campers, maximum of 20 campers.
  • Week 7: July 31 - August 4

    • 1.) Butwin Buckaroos
      Experience the joys of horseback riding at the Butwin Corral! Buckaroo campers are led by experienced equestrian staff in a progressively structured program providing a fun experience of interacting with gentle horses including hands-on learning, grooming and riding. Maximum of 12 campers.

    • 2.) Basketball
      Skyhawks brings us this fun, skill-intensive program that’s designed for beginning to intermediate players. An active week of passing, shooting, dribbling, and rebounding makes this one of Skyhawks most popular programs. Campers will begin their day on the courts at the JCC and bussed out to camp for afternoon activities. Participants receive a t-shirt, basketball, and player evaluation. Minimum of 8 campers, maximum of 24 campers.

    • 3.) Myth Busters
      Caution: Science in progress! Can you pull a tablecloth off a set table, without breaking anything? When you blow up a balloon and let go, why does it fly all over the place? How can you control its speed? Join us to find out the answers to these questions and more for a week of experimenting and cracking myths! Maximum of 24 campers.
